UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS

The Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Are you under the age of 65 and/or not yet eligible for Medicare? Start here to learn about your insurance options under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Direct, and Short-Term plans.

How do you sign up for Health Insurance through the marketplace?

For many individuals and families, this is going to be the most cost-effective route to get an affordable and fully comprehensive health plan. When you apply with the marketplace, you will be asked various questions such as your household size, estimated annual income, and geographic location. These factors will determine your eligibility for any tax subsidies, which could result in low-cost affordable health plans!

At Generations Insurance, our agents provide expertise in navigating the marketplace and specialize in identifying plans that meet individual needs. Our services are always at no cost to you, bringing you a dedicated agent all year round! Wondering what your cost may be on the marketplace?

Direct to Carrier Health Plans

At Generations Insurance, we work with multiple regional and national health insurance carriers, offering you the ability to explore the different options and networks available. A direct application with the company is often a great option for small business owners or entrepreneurs where income may be hard to estimate or would just prefer to apply directly with the company and not through the marketplace. Short Term Health Plans

Short-term health insurance plans have a limited duration and are geared toward people who need temporary medical insurance to bridge the gap between plan years for standard-term plans. For instance, people who are switching employers, starting graduate school, or young adults who have become ineligible for coverage under their parents’ plans and are searching for their own insurance might use a short-term insurance plan until obtaining a more permanent solution. Other examples are:

  • Recent college graduates who need temporary coverage
  • Part-time or temporary employees
  • Between jobs and looking for an affordable temporary alternative to COBRA
  • Newly employed and waiting for health benefits to begin
  • Recently retired and waiting for Medicare eligibility
Short-term health plans are available to customers who can pass medical underwriting. You choose your coverage period, from 28 days to 90 days. You can apply for a new plan when the initial one ends, but the combined coverage period cannot exceed 120 days in a 12-month period.
